Psychotherapy and Psychological Assessment are collaborative efforts between a client and a psychologist. Psychologists provide clinical expertise and a supportive environment to talk openly and confidentially about concerns and feelings. Most psychotherapies involve reappraisal of your experience and some experimentation with new behavior. After an initial assessment, you and your psychologist will decide on mutually agreeable goals and will monitor your progress toward those goals. In some cases, as in psychoeducational evaluations, the goals will be assessment and recommendations only. In other cases, the goals might include changing responses to stressful situations, decreased anxiety or depression, the development of new skills, or improved understanding of past experiences.
